Mudd and Water – socially conscious clothing

mudd and water

We love the Mudd and Water range of clothing and think that their Spring Summer 2014 range is their best season yet!

Mudd and Water is a British brand and is a socially conscious clothing label committed to ensuring you look and feel great, whilst safe in the knowledge that the clothes are both kind to you and the world around you.

The brand is a relatively small brand which is growing and has a limited number of stockists.  We chose to stock it not only for its ethical credentials but because of the lovely attention to detail and style quality that the range has.  It sits alongside our Seasalt Clothing and Nomads Clothing range very well.

The Summer 2014 collection has a range of Asian inspired florals, waves and willows in bold abstract and geometric forms.  We particularly love their End of Day Dress which is in one of the Mudd and Water signature prints.

Their Another Dollar Top is a very flattering T shirt in three stunning prints – the Indigo Lily, Toffee Lily and Seafoam Geo Print.  The organic cotton t shirts have 5% elastane for added comfort and fit.  We find that the soft gathers to the bust, centre pintucks and the figure flattering box pleat to the centre front make them the perfect summer top!  The tops look great with the Ku De Ta Cropped Pant in Navy Blue.
After all, looking good needn’t cost the earth!

Seasalt Bamboo Fabric

Seasalt continue to develop its organic range of products.  As well as their socks they also use bamboo fabric to make dresses and tops.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo has been used in ladies fashions for over a century!  Historically bamboo was used to ‘shape’ the ladies ‘Bustle Skirts’ in Edwardian times.  However more recently Bamboo can be manufactured into fibres such as viscose.

Bamboo is extremely resiliant and durable as a fibre.  In studies comparing it to cotton and polyester, it is found to have a high breaking tenacity, better moisture wicking properties, and better moisture absorbtion.  In superseeding these other fibres in these various areas, supporters of bamboo fibre products and goods tout it as more Eco-friendly than cotton and polyester.

Bamboo Dresses – we currently have two beautiful Sea salt dresses made out of Bamboo.  The fabric is a mix of bamboo and cotton and we find that this makes them hang beautifully.  The sea salt celeriac dress has flattering knife pleats around the neck with 3/4 length sleeves, the sea salt Dolvin Dress has a mock wrap over front and waist tie with full length sleeves.

Bamboo Sailor Socks – these are made out of bamboo derived viscose and Seasalt do a whole range of sailor socks with stripes and dots as well as gift boxes of their bamboo socks.  The sailor socks are beautifully soft as well as a good fit making them very popular.  The gift boxes are also available in mens sizes.

Like the sailor socks the ‘Bloomin’ Good Socks‘ are also made from bamboo.  These are still an everyday sock but are thicker than the sailor sock (and great for walking in!!)

Ladies Seasalt Tops

The spring summer season is upon us and we have a fantastic range of ladies Seasalt tops. There are multiple options for women’s Seasalt summer outfits each with unique attributes. Art of layering

If you are trying to keep warm then a few fine layers are better than one thick layer – since air is trapped inbetween the layers to act as ‘insulating layers’.

Mistral are famous for their layering and means you can always wear your favourite dresses and tops for longer which provides greater flexibility.  For example the stunning new Speckle Dress can be worn as a dress or tunic and then for extra warmth layered with the Beachcomer Tee in Sangria Pink.  The Mistral t shirts are perfect for layering since they are a cotton modal mix and make a great base layer.

Or for ultimate flexibility you can get a short sleeved cotton dress such as the Mistral Tapioca Dress which has a flattering cross over neckline and can be worn over a long sleeved t shirt (the sky tee in porcelain is great!) and then for extra warmth underneath a cardigan and the whippet cardigan in Hydro is just perfect!   The porcelain T shirt also looks great underneath the Mudd and Water Sweatshirt which has the beautiful cowl neckline.

Layering is also great for ladies who prefer a higher neckline – we often have customers who love the dress but for work prefer a higher neckline.  Also don’t worry if the cardigan is not as long as the tunic – the mix and match approach with the layers being different lengths can add an extra fun dimension to your outfit (as shown on the above pictures!)

If you need any help or advice on layering then please do not hesitate to pop into the shop or give us a ring and we are happy to advise over the phone!
